Most famous Moroccan dishes

  • Couscous: This is one of Morocco’s most emblematic dishes. Couscous is made from wheat semolina and served with a mixture of vegetables, meat (such as lamb, chicken or fish) and often seasoned with spices such as cumin, cinnamon and coriander.
  • Tajine: Tajines are stews cooked slowly in an earthenware vessel with a conical lid, which gives it its name. They can include a variety of ingredients such as meat, chicken, fish, dried fruits, vegetables and spices. Tajines are very tasty and are served with bread or couscous.
  • Pastela (or Bastela): savory pie has many spices and this is one of them, the savory pie with puff pastry filled with layers of chicken, almonds, egg and spices. It is often sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon before serving.
  • Harira: A traditional Moroccan soup commonly consumed during the holy month of Ramadan. Harira is a thick soup made with tomatoes, lentils, chickpeas, meat (usually lamb or chicken), coriander and other spices.
  • Briouats: These are puff pastry rolls filled with a mixture of meat, fish, vegetables or nuts. They can be served as appetizers or as a main dish.
  • Kefta: Meatballs of minced meat, usually lamb or beef, seasoned with spices such as cumin, coriander and parsley. They can be grilled, baked or cooked in tomato sauce.
  • Salad Moroccan: A fresh and vibrant salad that includes ingredients such as tomato, cucumber, bell bell pepper, onion, olives and fresh herbs, dressed with olive oil and lemon.
  • Mint Tea: Mint tea is a very popular drink in Morocco. It is prepared with green tea, fresh mint leaves and sugar. It is an important part of Moroccan culture and is commonly served at social gatherings.
